A smallish, khaki-coloured butterfly having four prominent orange ocelli with dark-blue pupils on the upperside, white speckling on the forewing and white-dotted wing-borders. The underside is pale with some ocelli and obscure markings.
Behaviour
These butterflies are common in Chennai, and can be seen flying swiftly along, not high from the ground. They are active and bold, chasing away other butterflies from their territory. They are fond of damp patches on the ground and rest with wings mostly held flat. They are found in the plains and high mountains and range throughout the Indian sub-continent as well as beyond into neighbouring eastern and south-eastern countries.
