This mid-sized, rather plain butterfly has a whitish upperside (to the wings) with black outer borders, those on the forewings having three clearly isolated, elongated white spots. The underside of both wings is dull, dusty yellow with dull black lines, some of which occur along the veins, and a few pale whitish marks on the forewings.
Behaviour
These butterflies are relatively common in Chennai, their flight being quite strong and quick, but not high. They are migratory and often bask in open spots; congregations may also occur at favourable places.
The Common gull is found in the plains and fairly high up in the northern and southern mountains, ranging throughout the country, more in the peninsular, and in Sri Lanka.
